We did it! The IDS Vancouver 2016 happened last weekend. From Thursday to Sunday we were at the Vancouver Convention Centre showing off our new Scavolini collection: Motus by Vittore Niolu. It was a great experience, as we had the opportunity to socialize with some of the big names of interior design here in Vancouver, as well as having the chance to introduce our new collection to friends and customers.
IDS Vancouver 2016
The annual event is already a tradition for the Western North America design industry, with more than 30,000 attendees for the whole fair. This year’s IDS Vancouver had 275 exhibitors, as well as many guest speakers and thousands of interior design professionals. The public is the most diverse possible, from students trying to learn the new trends of the industry, to homeowners that just want to understand some of the new possibilities for their homes and future renovations.
As a high-end industry reference for Italian design and quality, Scavolini was one of the exhibitors in the IDS Vancouver this year. We wanted to show our brand new collection, Motus, to the public. This collection is a redefinition of the kitchen space and the way it integrates with the rest of the home. It also brings the brand new Fluida shelving system, a new way to think usability for kitchens, bathrooms, closets and more. We wanted to impress our guests, and we were successful. Learn more about this collection from the Scavolini website.
The event was a fascinating experience. We had the opportunity to interact with many professionals, previous customers and the general public. Talking directly to them about what we are bringing to the industry this year. Scavolini has been a benchmark for the Italian interior design industry for over 20 years, and Siema is proud to represent such a big name here in Vancouver. The great design is completed with great quality materials, and it can make your kitchen the new favourite spot in your house. It’s easy to lose track of what’s important when doing a kitchen remodelling. Sometimes you forget a small detail that is easy to fix later. Sometimes you discover that there’s something that should be done earlier. To help you plan ahead and make the most of your new kitchen project, we decided to give you a brief list of “do’s and don’ts” of kitchen remodelling. Be ready for your project before it happens!
Do’s and Don’ts of kitchen remodelling
Do – Think about your needs. You need to plan around your space and what exactly you are going to need in your new kitchen. Experiment using your current kitchen and think: what would you do different that could make the current experience better?
Don’t – Make it up on the go. Without proper planning, your kitchen remodelling can end up being more expensive than necessary. Not only that, you may actually find yourself with more problems than solutions, like having a counter top custom made and changing your mind about it later.
Do – Hire professionals to help you do the job. Even if you like do-it-yourself projects, there are some parts of the renovation that will require professional expertise. Be honest about your own abilities. When in doubt, call a pro.
Don’t – Think that the budget it written in stone. It’s always wise to budget your kitchen remodelling for more than the estimate. Usually between 15 and 20% more. Be prepared and avoid unnecessary pauses on the project.
Do – Keep everything organized. Phone numbers of stores and contractors, reference numbers of previous orders and everything related to your project, like deadlines. You need to be able to find the information as needed.
Don’t – Overspend. A good-looking kitchen can increase the value of your home, but it needs to reflect the reality of the house itself. If you spend way too much on your kitchen remodelling, you may not see much this investment again if you decide to sell the property later.
Do – Pay attention to the trends. Design changes, and we change with it. Pay attention to what’s new about kitchen design. It’s not only important for aesthetics, but design can also change usability and redefine the overall experience of using a kitchen.
Don’t – Go against the house’s style. Every home is designed with a style in mind. Sometimes you can transform it over the years and make it more modern. Sometimes you can’t. A great kitchen needs to look good, but also needs to fit in the space where it exists.
Do – Buy high-quality products. Even if your budget is tight, buy the best products you can. Remember that kitchens are used daily, so everything that’s in there needs to stand for a good amount of time. Bad quality cabinets, for example, will have to replaced sooner, and you can end up spending more money.

So you finally decided to get a new contemporary bathroom vanity. Maybe you are doing a renovation, maybe you just think it’s time to get a new vanity. Either way, we want to help you. Because the vanity is such an important part of the bathroom, we know that you want to make the right choice. It needs to look good, it needs to be resistant, it needs to fit just right with the decoration. So, before you choose, think about these aspects:
That is the first question to be asked: how much space does your bathroom have? You need to match the size of your new contemporary bathroom vanity with the space available. The size of the vanity can also give you other possibilities, like having a double sink vanity or how much counter space it can have. If your bathroom is small, a wall-mounted vanity makes the space looks modern, bigger and optimized.
The placement of the vanity is usually limited by the plumbing. Well, unless you are doing a complete renovation of the bathroom and are willing to spend a lot of money to change the plumbing. However, thinking about placement is still important when choosing a contemporary bathroom vanity for a few reasons. First, you must remember that the vanity should not get in the way of the bathroom traffic. Second, note that the vanity needs the space around it as well, so you can open and close doors and drawers. Third, it needs to look good after you install it.
What do you want to store in the vanity? Choosing a contemporary bathroom vanity gives you freedom to address your storage needs. How many drawers you think you would need? How big are the items that you need to keep in the vanity? Siema offers a wide variety of styles with different storage options. Be sure to check them out before deciding which style fits your taste.
Choosing a vanity with the right materials goes beyond the visual style. It is great to have a beautiful bathroom, and a good looking vanity will add the right touch to your home. You can try to define your taste from the many different styles available. Do you like glass or prefer a lacquered finish? Do you like the wooden finish or prefer a colourful one? Think about the hardware as well, as they complement the style. However, remember that the bathroom is a humid environment. It is really important to choose high quality materials that you can trust for a long time.
We are sure that keeping these considerations in mind will help you decide on your new contemporary bathroom vanity. With so many options available, it is easy to find yourself a little lost.
